The Natural Science Institute of Iceland is responsible for obtaining, keeping, and sharing information about nature in Iceland. The Institute fulfils this role through activities that include:

  • Publishing data in map viewers
  • Providing data viewing and download services
  • Registering and sharing metadata
  • Sharing data through international data portals
  • Publishing written materials and maps
  • Sharing educational content
  • Offering museum and information services
  • Engaging with schools and students at all educational levels, the general public, and the scientific community
  • Hosting the lecture series Hrafnaþing, held during the winter months
  • Monitoring new developments, policies, and trends in the Institute’s scientific fields and presenting its work both nationally and internationally
