The Natural Science Institute of Iceland is responsible for obtaining, keeping, and sharing information about nature in Iceland. The Institute fulfils this role through activities that include:
- Publishing data in map viewers
- Providing data viewing and download services
- Registering and sharing metadata
- Sharing data through international data portals
- Publishing written materials and maps
- Sharing educational content
- Offering museum and information services
- Engaging with schools and students at all educational levels, the general public, and the scientific community
- Hosting the lecture series Hrafnaþing, held during the winter months
- Monitoring new developments, policies, and trends in the Institute’s scientific fields and presenting its work both nationally and internationally
