Map viewers
Map viewers allow users to view and interact with maps in a web browser. They display geographic information from geographic information systems (GIS) as map layers — for example, aerial photographs, property boundaries, road and parcel data, habitat maps, and geological maps.
In map viewers, users can:
- zoom in and out and move around the map
- search for locations
- view different map layers (overlays) that can be turned on and off
- measure distances and areas
- view information about selected areas by clicking on the map
The Iceland Map Viewer displays all official map data, allowing users to view various features together. The Natural Science Institute of Iceland is responsible for operating, maintaining, and developing the map viewer.
