Design standard
Material published in the name of the Natural Science Institute of Iceland must comply with the Institute’s design standard.
Logo
The logo of the Natural Science Institute of Iceland is a flower in a hexagonal shape in moss green, with the Institute’s name to the right of the flower in charcoal grey. The colour version of the logo is the primary version and is the main identifier of the Institute. The typographic arrangement of the Institute’s name should not be used without the symbol.
The flower in a hexagonal shape is the Institute’s symbol. It may be used on its own without the name “Natural Science Institute of Iceland” and comes in the same colour versions as the logo.
The monochrome version of the logo is mainly used when clarity cannot be ensured; on coloured backgrounds, photographs, or in similar situations.
The logo is used in general presentations of the Institute’s activities. Its use is permitted to everyone under the following conditions:
- The logo of the Natural Science Institute must be used exactly as provided here on the website. It is not permitted to alter the typeface, colour, or arrangement.
- Care must be taken to ensure the logo is clearly visible and not crowded by other elements.

A circular version of the logo is used in exceptional cases, for example when the design does not allow for the use of the primary logo.

Colours
Moss green and charcoal grey are the primary colours of the Natural Science Institute of Iceland.
Moss green is the Institute’s signature colour and appears in its logo. It serves, among other things, as a background and accent colour, and is generally used when aiming to emphasise the Institute’s identity.
Charcoal grey is the colour of the text in the Institute’s logo. It is intended as a substitute for black in headline text, graphics in layouts, or other material that would otherwise be black. The use of charcoal grey is not mandatory except in the logo itself when presented in colour.

Secondary colours
Secondary colours are distinguishing colours used in the creation of informational material and for presenting data in tables and charts. They also include theme colours and light tones.

Typography
The Institute’s typeface is called Source Sans Pro. It can be downloaded from Font Download and Font Squirrel (in .otf format, compatible with Windows and Mac OS).
