Base map data

IS 50V is a standardised digital dataset of Iceland at a scale of 1:50,000, produced and maintained by the Natural Science Institute of Iceland and under continuous revision. The name IS 50V refers to: Iceland – 1:50,000 – Vector (feature data). The data are accurate and geographically referenced in the Icelandic coordinate system ISN2004 / Lambert (EPSG:3057).

IS 50V is used as a base layer by many institutions and municipalities, is used in map publication and vehicle navigation systems, and can be viewed in the Iceland Map Viewer. The revision of IS 50V data draws on various sources and data such as GPS road measurements, different imagery, and data from other institutions and municipalities.

The IS 50V dataset is composed of vector files (points, lines, and polygons) describing geographic features on the surface of Iceland and consists of eight layers. Clicking on each layer opens a page in the metadata portal where information about the data and download options can be found.
