Vegetation maps of Iceland

The primary aim of vegetation mapping was the need for natural environment data for spatial planning and environmental impact assessments of developments. It has now been replaced by habitat type mapping. The vegetation maps include, among other things, information on how much of the land is vegetated or barren, the type of vegetation or land cover present, and vegetation cover, which can provide indications of other natural conditions and serve as a basis for further environmental research or land use decisions.
